Beautiful Design, No Absorption

[Tackaon] Korean Ttukbaegi Pot

Ttukbaegi pots are the 'workhorse' cooking ware in a Korean kitchen!

They're used almost everyday to cook - and serve - staple stews like Doenjang Jjigae or Kimchi Jjigae.

When buying a Ttukbaegi, it's important to check that it's durable, zero-absorption and easy-to-clean!

(Zero absorption means that the clay doesn't absorb residual liquids. This is important as cheap Ttukbaegi pots tend to absorb residual soap detergent when cleaning and release them during the next boil - no good!)

Today, we introduce you to Tackaon's Ttukbaegi Pot - which checks all three!

First, take a look at its beautiful design.

The lid has a pointed top and ridges that mimics the design of a Korean Gamasot (가마솥), a traditional Korean Iron Cauldron. Gamasots were used in the old days to cook large batches of rice or stew.

Tackaon's Ttukbaegi pots are made with Korean clay (that is mixed with a special material called Petalite) and fired twice at very high temperatures (~1250° Celsius).

This special material, combined with high-temp blazing produces a clay pot that is very durable. The pot can heat-up quickly without any cracks.

And the material becomes so dense that it does not soak in any liquids when cooking.

Tackaon's pots are handmade with effort and pride by some of Korea's most distinguished ceramic artisans.

If you're looking to serve Korean stews or soups with other banchans, consider this premium-quality Ttukbaegi pot.

It's available in 3 sizes and 2 colors (more details below).

(Cultural note: In Korean dining, it's typical for 1 Ttukbaegi pot to be set at the middle of the table and shared among everybody - along with other side dishes. Each family member is usually not served an individual Ttukbaegi pot).

While good quality, It’s way too small

This item seems well made but is quite small for a family of three or more unless used for a single dish in a multi dish meal. We like it for soups and stews but a bit too small for our use by itself.

Great quality pot

This is the second pot I have purchased from Gochujar. It’s an excellent quality pot and shipment was relatively quick. I also have the Clean Ttukbaegi pot. Both remind me of traditional Ethiopian clay pots and I use them to cook Korean as well as Ethiopian dishes.

Nice

I recieved my pot and used it right away to make spicy tofu stew. It works great. It feels and looks good.

I used it a few times and I noticed after washing, it left a white residue.. but my helper said perhaps we can oil the pot a bit and the stain will be gone. Going to check if it will go off after.

A Beauty

I really love the medium blue size Ttukbaegi Claypot that I bought. I know the pots are not cheap but after cooking my kimchi in my own pot, I transfered some over to my new Blue Ttukbaegi pot and my table setting never look so good. Even my kids were admiring it. 😀😍

Premium Handmade

Made of Ceramic & Petalite

This is a premium-quality Ttukbaegi made by Korean artisans

Each one is hand-made by some of Korea's most-distinguished ceramic makers

Petalite clay is light-weight but strong - crack lines will not form in the clay pot

This Ttukbaegi can be used on various stovetop: Gas, Highlight, Electric, Coil

Note: It will NOT heat on Induction Stovetops

Cleaning is simple - use hot water, dish soap & regular 3M sponge

Note: These pots are hand-made - there may be imperfections like dots, bumps, glaze marks, etc (reference image)

This is common with hand-made goods - and does not qualify as a "damaged item" - no returns or exchanges

USAGE TIPS - PLEASE READ!

1. Before first time use, fill the pot with some water - along with a few shakes of flour - and let it simmer away for 20 minutes on a low heat (this will clean and season the pot).

2. Do not heat without liquid in the pot.

3. Do not place a hot pot directly under cold water when washing (let the pot cool down first!)

4. Wash the pot with water and for harder stains, use the smooth-side of a dishwasher sponge.

5. Avoid storing food in the pot for long periods of time - the liquid can soak into the clay if left for long periods of time

6. Avoid using metal utensils with this pot - use wooden utensils! If there are scratches on the pot, remove them with a dab of toothpaste and rub it out with a wet tissue.
