Gochujang (Korean red chili paste) goes into stews, stir-fries, braised dishes and grilled meats. It’s a staple of Korean cooking, and this is one of Korea’s best-known: Chung Jung One’s Sunchang 100% Korean Gochujang (청정원 순창 100% 국산 고추장).
Chung Jung One is one of Korea’s biggest food brands. This version is made with Korean rice, Korean chili powder, Korean salt and Korean soybeans: every farm ingredient on the label is grown in Korea.
The paste is fermented twice, which gives it a clean, deep and well-rounded taste. Rice makes up 23.2% and chili powder 10.1%.
It adds a robust heat to any Korean dish without overwhelming it.
So what’s inside?
Full Ingredients List Rice syrup (rice), purified water, rice, chili powder 10.1%, refined salt, rice fermentation distillate (rice), roasted soybean powder, soybean meju and koji starter. All farm ingredients from Korea.
In the box One 500 g plastic tub. Made by Daesang (대상㈜) at its Sunchang plant in North Jeolla Province, South Korea.
To keep Keep it in a cool place away from direct sunlight, and refrigerate after opening. Best before the date printed on the top of the tub.
Good to know Contains soy; may contain traces of wheat. Gochujang is naturally fermented, so it keeps releasing a little gas inside the tub. We vacuum-seal every tub before it ships to prevent leaks, but changes in air pressure during the flight can still push out a little gas or paste. It’s still safe to eat, and a small leak isn’t grounds for a refund or exchange.
