[Nature Holic] Mungyeong Grown Omija Berries

Omija Berries (also known as Magnolia Berries) have been used for centuries in Korea as medicine.

That's because Omija Berries are packed with antioxidants which reduce free radical buildup in your body. (Free radicals are volatile molecules that injure cells and cause your body to breakdown)

They're also considered an adaptogen - which are natural herbs that support the body's natural ability to deal with stress. The berries help stabilize the levels of stress-associated compounds in the blood - which keep negative effects of stress like fatigue and fogginess at bay.

Now, the list of health benefits from these berries continue (you can Google it!)

But the best part is its unique taste! When eaten, the berries contains all five flavor profiles: sweet, sour, bitter, salty and pungent (spicy).

Today, we present to you one of Korea's Premium-Grade Omija Berries.

These Omija berries are grown in Mungyeong (a mountainous city located in North Gyeongsang, near the Sobaek mountains). Mungyeong is famous in Korea for producing the best-quality omija. Every year, festivals are held there and many tourists from all-around Korea come to harvest Omija berries.

One sample of these Mungyeong berries and you'll notice the quality - deep dark-red, naturally-dried and pleasantly tart.

If you're interested in trying Korean Omija Tea, this is a great choice!

Note: Schisandra Berries are possibly unsafe when taken during pregnancy - there is some evidence that it might cause the uterus to contract (stay on the safe side and avoid use if you're pregnant).

Omija berries

This is by far the best omija brand I have purchased it took time for me to get used to the flavors but once you get the hang of it it's no problem it's nice with sugar and honey but I like my omija tea without any

Quality product

I thought it was going to be hard to make some omija tea, but it’s so easy!!! Taste great with honey or sugar, this takes me back to my days of study abroad in Seoul, a bit pricey but worth it

Good quality product !

Very good quality product delivered from Gochujar in Korea. The flavor is like nothing we had ever tasted before, we drink it without adding any sweet to it. Very enjoyable. Thanks Daniel and Katie.

Delicious! I love the energy boost it gives me!

I absolutely love this drink. The first batch I made I was shocked at how sour and bitter it was. But now I'm used to it and I enjoy it regularly. My parents and I have a small glass every day with breakfast. It gives us an energy boost and helps us have a clear mind. This juice is potent medicine for drowsy low energy days. I always have it chilled in order to retain all the nutrients. It's expensive but it is QUALITY! ok!? Will buy it again soon!

How to make Omija Cheong (Sweetened Syrup Base for Beverages)

Rinse 100g of dried omija berries under cold water

Then place the washed berries into 1L of water. Let it soak for 12 hours (or overnight)

Use a strainer and remove all the berries from the omija liquid

Now pour the omija liquid into a large pot

We'll sweeten the liquid by adding 450g of sugar (do not stir it)

Place pot on HIGH heat and wait until the sugar dissolves into the liquid

Then reduce to a MEDIUM heat.  Let it boil for another 5 minutes

(While you wait, sterilize the glass container you'll use to store... in boiling water)

Continue to reduce the liquid until half of it remains. It should thicken into a runny syrup texture

Turn off heat. Let the extract cool down fully

Pour the extract into sterilized glass container - then store in refrigerator

(Do not add the used omija berries back into the extract - store separately!)

The extract will stay good for up to 1 week in the refrigerator
