[Muryangsu] Traditional Doenjang (Selected by Korea's Presidential Blue House)

  • 3 ingredients only
  • 100% Korean ingredients
  • No preservatives or additives
  • Blended with 2–6 year doenjang

Today, we’re excited to share something truly special: an artisan doenjang made with tradition, care and dedication.

In June 2020, Muryangsu was chosen as an official gift set for Korea’s national patriots and delivered to the Presidential Blue House (Cheong Wa Dae, 청와대). Top chefs in Korea, including at Michelin-starred restaurants, cook with it too.

This is Muryangsu’s Traditional Doenjang (무량수 전통 된장). It’s made with just three ingredients: Korean soybeans, Korean sea salt and purified water. That’s it. No preservatives, no additives.

There are endless health foods and supplements out there, but true health starts with what we eat every day: the sauces, oils and side dishes at every meal. Muryangsu never claims to make medicine. What it does promise is honest food, made with sincerity and care, so you can enjoy it with peace of mind.

The soybeans are steamed in traditional iron cauldrons, then naturally aged and fermented in large Korean earthenware jars (jangdok), each one tended through the seasons. For a deep, complex flavor, every new batch is blended with doenjang that has aged for 2 to 6 years.

What we love most is that you can taste the difference. It’s worlds apart from anything on supermarket shelves.

Our palates have grown used to overly sweet or salty food, and the homey flavors of our parents’ and grandmothers’ kitchens are hard to find. Muryangsu brings them back. Its rich, earthy aroma is clean and refined, and you can taste the care in every bite.

So what’s inside?

Full Ingredients List Meju (Korean soybeans), sun-dried sea salt from Sinan, purified water. All from Korea.

In the box One 400 g or 1 kg jar, depending on the size you choose. Made by Muryangsu (Manpo Nongsan, 만포농산) in Yeongju, South Korea.

To keep Unopened, it keeps at room temperature. Refrigerate after opening. Best within 18 months of the production date printed on the jar.

Good to know Contains soy. Doenjang is naturally fermented, so it keeps releasing a little gas inside the jar. We vacuum-seal every jar before it ships to prevent leaks, but changes in air pressure during the flight can still push out a little gas or paste. It’s still safe to eat, and a small leak isn’t grounds for a refund or exchange.
