Bring tradition to the kitchen
[Nothyang] Traditional Korean Yugi Chopstick Set (2 Person & 4 Person)
- Handmade bangjja yugi
- 78% copper, 22% tin
- 2 or 4 person sets
- Optional holders
Yugi is back in vogue.
Traditionally, every Korean household owned a full set of yugi (bangjja) brassware. From bowls to spoons, yugi was the material of choice for its quality, its warm golden luster and its fine craftsmanship.
In summer, Koreans set the table with porcelain to keep it light and fresh. When winter came, porcelain was swapped for yugi: its golden color made food look more inviting, and it kept dishes warm for longer.
After the Korean War, cheap plastics nearly wiped out Korea’s brassware industry. Most workshops closed, and only a handful of artisans kept the tradition alive, preserving the painstaking bangjja technique passed down through generations.
Nothyang is one of them, known for its modern take on traditional Korean yugi. Today we offer its Modern Bangjja Yugi Spoon & Chopstick Set (놋향 방짜유기 수저세트 모던), handmade the bangjja way, with heated brass hammered again and again until it is dense and strong.
Each piece is made from a precise alloy of 78% copper and 22% tin, so it’s sturdy and hard to bend. You’ll feel the quality the moment you pick it up.
Nothyang has won the Korea Best Brand Awards for premium yugi five years in a row (as of 2024), and its production is ISO 9001 certified for quality management.
If you’re drawn to traditional Korean tableware, this is a lovely place to start, and a thoughtful gift that lasts.
So what’s inside?
Materials Yugi (bangjja brass): 78% copper, 22% tin. Spoon 20.8 × 4.1 cm, chopsticks 22 cm. About 260 g for the 2-person set.
In the box 2-person set: 2 spoons and 2 pairs of chopsticks. 4-person set: 4 spoons and 4 pairs of chopsticks. The “+ Holders” options add 2 or 4 matching holders (7.3 × 2.2 × 0.5 cm). Handmade by Nothyang (놋향) in South Korea.
Care Before first use, soak for about an hour in warm water with a little vinegar (about 5 tablespoons per 2 liters), then wash and dry well. Wash by hand with dish soap and dry completely after every use. No dishwasher, microwave, oven, sterilizer or steel wool.
Good to know Every piece is handmade, so size, weight, color and shape can vary slightly, and returns or exchanges for these natural variations may not be possible. Yugi slowly turns a deeper, warmer gold after 2 to 3 months of use, and salty or acidic foods can darken it. Both are natural, and a copper cream or scrub pad brings back the shine.
[Nothyang] Traditional Korean Yugi Chopstick Set (2 Person & 4 Person)

Handmade Korean brass spoons and chopsticks
Each set is one spoon and one pair of chopsticks in yugi, Korea’s traditional bangjja brass, handmade by the artisans at Nothyang, one of Korea’s leading yugi workshops.
The alloy is exactly 78% copper and 22% tin, which gives yugi its soft golden luster. Nothyang’s pieces are tested and certified for that ratio, for antibacterial performance and for being free of heavy metals, so they’re safe for everyday meals.
Made to last for generations, yugi slowly deepens into a richer golden tone with use. Choose a 2-person or 4-person set, with or without matching holders.

The 2-person set
Two spoons and two pairs of chopsticks, with a brushed golden finish and a slim, classic shape. A lovely first piece of yugi, and a thoughtful gift for a couple.

The 4-person set
Four spoons and four pairs of chopsticks, enough to set the whole family table.

Optional add-on: matching holders
Rest your spoon and chopsticks on a matching holder. They come in sets of 2 or 4, to go with the 2-person or 4-person set, and each one measures 7.3 × 2.2 × 0.5 cm.

About Nothyang
Traditionally, every Korean household owned a full set of yugi, from bowls to spoons. In summer, porcelain kept the table light and fresh. When winter came, it was swapped for yugi: the warm golden color made food look more inviting, and the brass kept dishes warm for longer.
After the Korean War, cheap plastics nearly wiped out Korea’s brassware industry. Most workshops closed, and only a handful of artisans kept the bangjja technique alive, heating brass and hammering it again and again until it is dense and strong.
Nothyang is one of them, known for its modern take on traditional Korean yugi. Its pieces are strong and hard to bend, and you can feel the quality the moment you pick one up.

A precise 78:22 alloy
Yugi starts with copper and tin melted together at an exact 78 to 22 ratio. That ratio is what makes authentic Korean bangjja yugi, and what gives it its golden tone and natural antibacterial properties.

Cast in molds
Once melted, the alloy is carefully cast into molds to shape each piece.

Polished by hand
After casting, artisans polish every piece by hand to bring out yugi’s natural golden glow.

Tested and certified
Every Nothyang piece is inspected and tested. Its copper and tin ratio, its 99.99% antibacterial performance and its heavy-metal safety test have all passed and been certified.

ISO-certified quality
Nothyang’s yugi is made under ISO 9001, the international standard for quality management, so every step of production follows strict quality control. Uncertified yugi can’t promise the same standards for alloy, antibacterial performance or resistance to discoloration.
Nothyang holds ISO 9001:2015, ISO 45001:2018 and ISO 14001:2015.

Korea Best Brand, five years running
Nothyang won the 2024 Korea Best Brand Awards in the premium yugi (bangjja) category, its fifth year in a row.

Please read before use
For the first month, wash each piece after use and wipe it completely dry with a soft cloth.
Salty or acidic foods, like soy sauce, pickles or anything with a strong sauce or vinegar, can make the copper oxidize and change color over time. This is a natural reaction.
The first few times you use it with hot food like rice or soup, small white spots may appear. This is a normal trait of copper, not a defect.
After 2 to 3 months of use, the surface naturally turns a deeper, warmer gold.
Precautions
Don’t clean yugi with steel wool. It scratches the surface. Use a regular 3M dish sponge (the dark green, coarse side) or Nothyang’s yugi scrub pad instead.
Keep it out of dishwashers, dish dryers, sterilizers, ovens, microwaves and induction cooktops. Yugi shouldn’t be exposed to very high heat or electric appliances.
Skin oils and air can slowly dull the shine. If you’re giving it as a gift, try not to touch the surface with bare hands, as fingerprints can leave marks that darken over time.
If you won’t use it for a while, store it somewhere dry and well ventilated.

Before first use: a vinegar soak
Mix warm water and vinegar at about 30 to 1, roughly 5 tablespoons of vinegar to 2 liters of warm water, and soak the yugi for about an hour. Then wash it with dish soap and water, and dry it thoroughly with a towel.
Washing and storing
Wash yugi like any other tableware, with dish soap and a sponge.
Then dry it completely with a clean cloth. Water droplets left to dry can leave dark marks.

Keep it shiny
If your yugi looks heavily discolored or worn, polish it with a copper cream such as Wright’s Copper Cream. Rub gently along the grain of the metal. It brings back the original color and leaves a thin protective layer.

Removing stains or oxidation spots
For visible stains or oxidation marks, gently scrub with a yugi scrub pad or the green scouring side of a dish sponge. Make sure the pad and the yugi are both completely dry. No water while polishing.
Scrub dry, along the grain
A short clip of a stain coming off a yugi bowl with a dry scrub pad.

How to use Nothyang’s yugi scrub pad
First, make sure the yugi and the pad are completely dry, with no water at all. Gently rub the surface along the grain: side to side on the sides, in small circles on the bottom.
Then wash with a mild dish soap and a soft sponge, rinse well, and dry completely with a clean cloth before storing.

Two sides, two jobs
Use the silver side for light tarnish and everyday shine. Use the black side for heavier stains and oxidation, or a deeper polish.
