Plate Bulgogi, Grilled Fish or Tteokbokki!
[Nothyang] Rectangular Yugi Plate
We are very excited to introduce Nothyang to Gochujar!
Nothyang was distinguished as the #1 Top Winner in "2020 Korea Best Brands" for Yugi Brassware.
This is Nothyang's Signature Korean Rectangular Yugi Plate.
The Rectangular Yugi Plate is perfect for plating grilled fish, strips of Korean BBQ or even Bossam (boiled porks wraps). Perhaps even a few scoops of Tteokbokki & sliced Kimbap.
Place it at the middle of your table and ta-da ... the highlight of the night!
The corners of this yugi plate are smoothed and the sides are slanted upwards for a minimal yet modern feel.
What separates Korean Yugi (also known as Bangjja) from other brozenware is the alloy ratio between copper and tin. Yugi uses an exact ratio of 78% copper and 22% tin. This 22% ratio of tin is much higher than other brozenware, which is typically at a 1/9 ratio.
Because of this difference, Yugi bowls and plates have a beautiful, natural golden sheen that gets brighter over time (usage) - as well as self-sterilizing properties!
Yugi kills and prevents viruses, bacteria and microorganisms from growing on its surface. This is why Yugi was used to serve the Korean Royal Family and Court during the older days.
In recent years, Yugi has made a huge comeback in the modern Korean kitchen. It's back in vogue ... and become a popular gift for both newlyweds and solo-livers.
If you've started with a 1-Person Yugi Set, consider adding this signature rectangular piece to your collection!
I purchased bangjja yugi spoons and chopsticks from Gochujar and was very satisfied with the quality. So, I wanted to try other items and bought this yugi plate.
You can feel the craftsmanship in many ways. The plate is heavy, and the golden color is dazzling in a gorgeous way. Make sure to learn how to take care of yugi though. Once you know how to clean it properly, it can be used generations to generations like cast iron pans!

A look into Nothyang's Yugi making process (no sound)
1. Each piece is handmade
Nothyang makes each Yugi piece by hand - via manual processes
As a result, there may be subtle differences in size and look (i.e. minor scratches/blemishes/stains).
Note: These minor imperfections do not qualify the product as "damaged'.
2. DOn't use stainless steel scrubbers/wool
Instead, use a regular 3M Dishwashing Sponges when washing (use the dark-green, coarse side).
Or use Nothyang's Special Yugi Scrubs...
3. SOAK IN VINEGAR BEFORE FIRST USE!
Before first use, soak the Yugi in lukewarm water - with vinegar.
(Use a ratio of 2 Cups Water to 1 Tablespoon vinegar)
Soak it for 30 mins - 1 hour (not any longer).
Then rinse off, with soap & water.
Finally, dry it off completely with a towel.
4. I See STAINS On MY YUGI - what is this?
It's because the Yugi was stored with moisture on it (i.e. water droplets).
Remove the stain by scrubbing...
Use the backside of a dry 3M Dishwasher Sponge (the coarse, dark green side).
Or use Nothyang's Special Yugi Scrub.
Important: Both the Yugi Ware & the Scrub should be dry when scrubbing.
The stain will come off as a fine black powder.
Rinse it off with water and dry it off completely with a kitchen towel.
As you use (and clean) your Yugi ware more often - its golden sheen will get brighter!
Nothyang was selected #1 Top Winner in "2020 Korea Best Brands" for Yugi Brassware
Nothyang uses the most premium grade copper available in Korea
Korean Yugi is made by hammering a precise mix of exactly 78% Copper and 22% Tin
Yugi has self-sterilizing properties - it kills bacteria, viruses and other microorganisms.
It also retains temperatures well - plate hot foods and the dishes will stay hot.
Scoop-on cold foods, and the plates will stay cold!
FAQ ABOUT YUGI
A: No. If you use - and wash - your yugiware regularly, the golden sheen becomes brighter (assuming proper care).
Yes, you may smell a slight metallic smell from Yugi when you first use it.
(This is the smell of the copper - it's normal, and part of the break-in process)
To remove the smell, do the following steps:
1. Soak the Yugi in a mixture of hot water & vinegar (ratio mentioned above) for 10 minutes.
2. Then wash it with soap & a dish sponge - followed by a rinse under hot running water.
3. Place it back into the water & vinegar mixture for an additional 10 minutes.
4. Then scrub it again with soap & dish sponge - followed by a rinse under hot running water.
5. Then dry it off completely!
This should remove the smell.
But if you still smell a faint smell, don't worry...
After a few weeks of regular usage - and washing - it should disappear completely.
No, Yugi ware is for plating and serving only (not for cooking in heat).
Do not place it into the microwave or over any stovetop.
After washing the Yugi ware, dry it off completely with a kitchen towel.
There should be no wet spots - or moisture left - on the Yugi.
Please re-read the last section in the Product Notice Section (in our product page above).
The golden sheen never disappears. You just have to reveal it!
First - while it's dry - scrub-off any visible stains. Use the backside of 3M Kitchen Sponge (make sure the sponge is dry). You'll see the stain come off as a fine black powder.
Then fill a small pot with hot water. Add a few large splashes of vinegar and few pinches of baking soda (doesn't have to be exact). Let it rest in this mixture for 30 minutes.
After 30 minutes, rinse-off the Yugi. Then dry it off completely with a kitchen towel!
Note: If baking soda & vinegar isn't working too well. you can also soak the Yugiware in Tomato Juice (yes, it works!).
Fill a large pot (or other large container) with equal parts tomato juice & water (1:1 ratio). Soak the yugi in this tomato mixture for 30 minutes. Afterwards, wash it off with water and soap. Then rinse it off again and dry it off completely with a kitchen towel!
