Rich in Omega-3 Fatty Acid (ALA)
[Bangyudang] Toasted Perilla Oil (Medium Roast)
Fish like tuna, salmon, or mackerel are excellent sources of Omega-3 Fatty Acids.
But did you know that perilla seeds also boast high amounts of Omega-3?
In fact, perilla contains the highest amount of Omega-3 (ALA) among all plants.
One tablespoon of perilla oil has roughly the same amount of ALA found in a whole mackerel! That's why many Korean home cooks incorporate perilla oil into their recipes.
Bangyudang is a renowned local grain roastery in Gwangju with 50+ years of experience. They offer two signature perilla oils.
This is their toasted version (medium-roast), which is the most commonly used in Korean recipes.
The perilla seeds undergo a thorough washing process before being roasted to perfection using infra-red heating technology.
This roasting produces a deep, nutty-perilla flavor that works beautifully with any Korean recipes that call for perilla oil like: bibimbap, braised dishes, namul (wild veggie) banchans and perilla oil noodles (막국수).
The oil is available in three sizes: 100ml, 200ml & 320ml.
Note: This is toasted perilla oil - which is what is typically used for Korean cooking. For untoasted, cold-pressed oil, click here.

Perilla Seeds: The King of Plant-based Omega-3
Omega-3 is abundant in fatty fish such as salmon, mackerel, sardines, and anchovies.
For those who don't consume fish frequently or follow a vegetarian/vegan diet, perilla seeds serve as an excellent alternative.
Compared to other plant-based sources, perilla oil boasts the highest proportion of biologically active omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids.
This includes, above all, alpha-linolenic acid (ALA).
Available in 3 sizes:
100ml, 200ml & 320ml
Perilla oil serves excellently as a finishing oil for dishes.
Impart a touch of nuttiness to pan-fried dishes such as tofu, eggs, fritters, and more
Do not use it as cooking oil to deep-fry foods.
Recipe Idea 1: Perilla-Oil Fried Egg Bibimbap
1. Get a frying pan hot and drizzle in some Perilla Oil. Crack an egg and let it sizzle in the pan.
(As it fries, you'll smell the perilla oil fill the air - so appetizing!)
2. Scoop some hot rice into a bowl. Place a small piece of Butter over the rice and let it melt.
3. Then drizzle a small amount of Soy Sauce and Sesame Oil over the rice. Top it off with the fried egg.
4. If you have dried laver flakes, sprinkle that in. (Bon Appetit!)
Recipe Idea 2: Acorn Jelly Salad
1. Add select greens to a mixing bowl. Then cut acorn starch jelly into cubes and add it to a mixing bowl.
2. Make Spicy Marinade: Mix Gochugaru (2T), Soy Sauce (2T), Sugar (1.5T), Vinegar (1.5T), Minced Garlic (0.5T) and Perilla Oil (1T)
3. Toss salad in Spicy Marinade. Sprinkle on dried laver flakes. Garnish with microgreens or alfalfa sprouts.
STORAGE TIP: PLEASE READ
Please store our perilla and sesame oils in a cool, dry place at room temperature (15-25°C) — no need to place in refrigerator
Do not store oil in refrigerator!
High-quality seed oils are sensitive to changes in temperature, moisture, sunlight, and pressure.
Placing the oil in and out of the refrigerator can cause rapid temperature fluctuations, which may lead to potential spoilage.
Simply store the oil at room temperature - in a dry, cool place
Bangyudang - Korean Authentic Roastery
We placed great emphasis on perfecting the traditional Korean 'roasted 고소산' flavor for authentic Korean cooking
Korea-Grown Seeds. Precise Roasting. Traditional Flavor.
Point 1: Far Infrared Roasting
We've integrated our 50+ years of roasting experience with modern technology.
Infrared roasting heats the seeds faster, more uniformly, and at relatively lower temperatures compared to conventional hot air/flame roasters.
It also preserves the natural nutrition and antioxidants in the seeds.
Point 2: Aroma Loss Prevention System
After the infrared roasting process, the seeds undergo a rapid cooling process.
This preserves the nutritional and flavorful integrity of the seeds - minimizing loss of nutrients and taste compounds.
Point 3: Low-Temperature Oil Screw System
Extensive research has revealed that the key health ingredients in the seeds are found abundant in the cell walls.
Therefore, instead of pressing the raw materials with pressure, a system has been developed to finely break down the cellulose in the cell walls for oil extraction.
This allows for the extraction of the active ingredients within the fibers.
In short, the oil retains the original nutrition of the seeds.
Point 4: Anti-Oxidation Refinement System
To ensure the oil tastes its finest upon receipt, we have minimized its contact with air throughout the production process.
Furthermore, clear oil is produced through the use of extremely fine 'labratory-grade' filters
Also, to maintain product freshness, we operate a system where the 6-layer filters are replaced every 3 hours.
Please give the bottle a good shake before pouring - helps to improve taste!
