Yangban Roasted Laver with Perilla Oil

Korea's Top-100 Best-Selling Products

[Yangban] Roasted Laver with Perilla Oil

Yangban's Roasted Laver with Perilla Oil is one of Korea's most popular exports.

It's so popular that it was officially designated by Korea's Ministry of Trade as one of Korea's Top 100 Best-Selling Products over the last decade.

So why's it so popular? First, the laver (also known as Gim) is toasted to perfection. It's brittle, crispy and breaks with a snap. This gim doesn't have a strong sea flavor either - making it palatable for first-timers. Furthermore, it's coated with a stroke of perilla oil, which is high in Omega-3. Finally, it's seasoned with just the right amount of salt.

Gim pairs perfectly with a hot bowl of rice. Chances are you'll finish your rice within a few minutes!

Yangban is one of the Top-3 players in the seaweed category. Their Perilla Gim was selected as one of Korea's Top 100. Best Products over the last decade.

          How is Gim Made?
[Yangban] Roasted Laver with Perilla Oil

Korean Gim starts with harvesting edible seaweed (red algae). But not from any ocean! Gim is harvested specifically from the waters surrounding the Korean Peninsula, starting from late-December to mid-April.

The harvested seaweed is finely chopped and mixed into a large vat of water - like a soup. The soup mixture is then scooped over rectangular porous mats. The water passes through the mat and a thin layer of seaweed mix is left behind. This thin layer is baked at a high temperature (or sun-dried). Then seasoned with oil & salt and baked once more.

How is this advertised in Korea?

"A healthy meal doesn't require much.... Yangban Gim!
It's made with high-quality seaweed that's grown for 150 days"
