Premium Korean Cast Iron Cookware

[Jang] Traditional Cast Iron Korean BBQ Lid

Attention Korean BBQ enthusiasts!

Today, we're thrilled to highlight a traditional Korean culinary gem – the ssot-doo-kkung (솥뚜껑), a cast-iron cauldron lid.

But what makes it special?

This iconic lid is revered among Koreans as the ultimate grilling surface, especially for prime K-BBQ cuts.

Take, for instance, the preparation of Samgyeopsal (thin strips of pork belly) - the surface ensures an even charring, resulting in a delightfully crispy skin.

Interestingly, K-BBQ establishments actively seek out these cauldron lids, tapping into the nostalgia of grilling meats on them – a throwback to the days when cast-iron cauldrons were the kitchen workhorse for cooking rice and stews in rural areas.

Setting this product apart is its exceptional quality, meticulously crafted from high-grade Korean iron ore from Korea.

(Not made in China.)

With decades of expertise in crafting Korean cauldron pots, the factory now offers these cauldron lids separately, catering to both passionate K-BBQ aficionados and restaurants.

Key Note: This cast-iron lid seamlessly fits over portable butane gas stoves, eliminating the need for additional accessories or gadgets.

Built to withstand the test of time (and quite heavy!), this cauldron lid is designed to be a lifelong companion with proper care!

For those who frequently indulge in Korean BBQ at home, consider investing in this cauldron lid for the perfect crispy sear and a touch of nostalgic flavor.

Note: This lid does comes pre-seasoned with perilla oil - ready to cook with right away.

Before First Use:

For the first use, simply rinse the lid with water (no soap) to eliminate any residual debris from the manufacturing process

Before Grilling:

Before heating, apply a thin layer of cooking oil to the lid to prevent sticking

How to Season:

1. Combine equal parts perilla oil (or sesame oil) with any other cooking oil.

2. Heat the lid on MEDIUM heat until it's hot. Then, using a paper towel, apply a thin layer of the oil mixture.

3, Allow 30 seconds to 1 minute for the oil to adhere/absorb into the surface.

4. Turn off the heat and allow the lid to cool down.

If seasoned properly, you'll notice a shiny, smooth surface. Repeat steps 2 to 4 if necessary.

When using a butane gas stove, avoid setting the heat above MEDIUM. The grill retains heat and gradually increases in temperature during the grilling process. Emphasize: NO HIGHER THAN MEDIUM HEAT!

If you plan to store the lid for extended periods, be sure to season the pan before doing so to prevent any rust.

Wrap in newspaper and store in a dry, cool place with air flow. Avoid leaving it in damp or humid environments, as moisture can contribute to rust formation. If storing for an extended period, consider placing a paper towel or cloth between stacked pans to allow air circulation.

When washing, do not use abrasive sponges, such as stainless steel scouring pads, as they have the potential to strip away the seasoning.

Our lids come pre-seasoned. In contrast to China-made cast-iron, which often finishes with chemical glazes, ours is seasoned with food-safe perilla oil.
