Chilkab Nongsan's Gochugaru is made with only 100% Korean red chili peppers.
This is a key selling point for locals - Korean-grown. It's become a larger issue as many of the larger food conglomerates use lower-quality red chilis from China to keep prices low. Chilkab Nongsan prides itself in using only Korean-grown chili peppers (Taeyang peppers).
This Gochugaru has a piquant, smoky flavor. It has a medium-level spice (akin to Jalapeno level heat), which is perfect for everyday cooking. We've used it for many years to make delicious homemade Kimchi!
I can get all the ingredient in this country EXCEPT the gochugaru. Nothing else can replace that flavor to make homemade kimchi. Very easy to order, shipment to a local address in Spain was easy and fast. Made kimchi the day after it arrived and now I'm a happy happy man. With this gochugaru I can also make pancakes, soups, and pickled radish. My only regret is that I didn't buy the bigger bag!

What is Gochugaru?
Gochugaru is made by drying-out and crushing Korean red chili peppers (Taeyang Chili Peppers). Gochugaru has a multi-layered flavor profile: it's spicy, sweet and slightly smoky. It's a unique flavor that's essential to Korean cooking.
So how spicy is it? The spice level varies by producer, but it's usually between 4000-8000 Scoville units (similar heat level to a Jalapeno Pepper).
