100 Years of Tradition, Korean Cast-Iron Master

[Anseong Jumul] Premium Gamasot Cast-Iron Pots

The Personal-Sized Gamasot – A Modern Revival of Tradition

For centuries, the gamasot (가마솥)—a large, heavy cast-iron cauldron—was the heart of every Korean kitchen. Traditionally placed over a kitchen furnace, it was used not only for cooking but also for heating the home, symbolizing warmth, family, and nourishment.

Now, Anseongju Foundry has reimagined this traditional cookware into a personal-sized gamasot, allowing you to bring the authentic taste of Korean cooking into modern kitchens.

Why Choose the Anseongju Personal-Sized Gamasot?

✔️ Authentic Korean Craftsmanship – Handcrafted by a fourth-generation master foundryman, officially designated as Gyeonggi-do Intangible Cultural Heritage No. 45.

✔️ Superior Cast Iron Quality – Made using the gyu-pul method (copper mold casting) for a pure, heavy-metal-free product with exceptional durability.

✔️ Enhanced Cooking Performance – Cast iron distributes heat evenly, ensuring perfectly cooked rice, rich stews, and deep, flavorful dishes.

✔️ A Piece of Korean Heritage – A miniaturized version of the traditional gamasot, preserving a beloved piece of Korean culture while offering modern convenience.

✔️ Available in Five Sizes – Whether cooking for one person, a large family, or special gatherings, choose the perfect size for your needs.

Use the gamasot to cook authentic Korean rice, steam foods, and make delicious soups and stews.

Designed for Convenience and Better Cooking

The gamasot's award-winning design (Patent No. 0329657) prevents messy overflows, making rice cooking easier and more precise. The lid fits inside the pot, allowing you to see when the water reaches a boil so you can adjust the heat and prevent spills.

Plus, the bottom of the pot naturally forms crispy nurungji (scorched rice)—a delicious, golden crust that’s a beloved part of Korean cuisine.

✔️ Magnetic Wooden Handles – Each gamasot comes with wooden handles that snap together with a built-in magnet, making it easy to lift and store. The same handles can be used for the gamasot lid, ensuring convenience while cooking.

✔️ Trivets for Multi-Purpose Use – The Medium, Large, and Extra-Large sized gamasots includes a trivet that can be used both as a table stand and a steamer inside the pot.

You can steam sweet potatoes, pork belly (samgyeopsal), potatoes, and more—without adding water!

Note: The ‘personal’ and ‘small’ sized gamasot sizes does NOT include a trivet, as Anseong does not produce trivets to fit inside these smaller pots.

However, a larger-sized trivet (15cm) can be purchased separately if you want to simply use it as a table protector.

Pre-Seasoned & Ready to Use

Each gamasot is pre-seasoned with sesame oil (food-safe, no chemical finish), so it’s ready to use after a simple rinse under warm water.

(Optional: For an extra thorough clean before first use, you can boil rice water (쌀뜨물) in the pot and discard it)

📄 More detailed instructions listed below - along with a seasoning tutorial video below!

Gochujar Editor Note:

This product comes with a manual in Korean. We have translated it to English below.

Anseongju's non-coated cookware is pure cast iron with no chemical coaach product undergoes an initial oxidation process (seasoning) before shipping, which naturally develops a protective layer of oil when properly maintained.

Since this is a natural seasoning process using oil, it does not last permanently. Over time, oil may wear off, exposing areas of iron—this is a natural occurrence due to regular use. If seasoning fades, simply re-season to restore its protective coating.

Compared to coated cookware, non-coated iron requires more maintenance, but its biggest advantage is that it is naturally safe, free from synthetic coatings, and enhances flavor over time.

Do I need to do anything before first-use?

Since seasoning is already applied at the factory, no additional sesaoning is required before first use.

Simply give the pot a light rinse with warm water & sponge before first use.

Optional: For an extra thorough clean, you can boil rice water (쌀뜨물*)  in the pot, then discard it before regular use.

Rice water (쌀뜨물*) refers to the starchy water left after washing rice

After cooking, how do I wash this? Any tips?

For best results, after use, boil rice water (쌀뜨물) or a mixture of baking soda with water to remove impurities. This helps maintain and protect the seasoning layer.

If rice water or baking soda is unavailable, simply use warm water and a soft sponge for cleaning.

Do NOT use dish soap, steel wool, or metal scrubbers.

Soap and steel scrubbers strip away the oil layer, causing seasoning to wear off quickly.

If cooking strong-smelling foods, clean by burning off residue, drying completely, and reapplying oil.

- Storage Tips -

After washing, dry the pot thoroughly over low heat to eliminate any remaining water droplets. The pot must be completely dry before storing!

Store in a dry, well-ventilated place - with the lid slightly open - to avoid moisture buildup.

NOTE: If you plan to season the pot before storing, be sure to heat it properly during the seasoning process!

Simply wiping the pot with oil is not enough. You must apply oil while the pot is heated! See seasoning tips below.

- Seasoning Tips -

When should you season your pan?

If the seasoning starts to wear off over time, simply repeat this process.

What you need?

Paper towels, tongs, and cooking oil (preferably perilla or sesame oil for durability)

Seasoning Steps:

1. Lightly scrub the pan to remove rust or any remaining seasoning.

2. Place the cleaned pan on low heat to dry completely- remove any moisture (all water droplets). Gradually increase the heat to a medium-high now. (Important: Using low heat will result in ineffective seasoning.)

3. Once the pan is hot, use a paper towel to apply a thin layer of oil evenly across the surface. Rub the oil into the pan thoroughly to ensure deep penetration.

4. Once the first layer is absorbed, heat the pan further, then apply a second layer of oil.

5. Repeat the oiling and heating process until the pan gradually turns dark black—this is the seasoning developing.

6. Let the pan cool completely before storing. Avoid storing in humid conditions to prevent rust.

7. If the seasoning starts to wear off over time, simply repeat this process.
